1. Pre-painted Metal for Home Appliance
Thanks to its vibrant colors and efficient production, pre-painted steel is commonly used for exterior walls, roofing, interior decoration, windows, and doors. It's also gaining traction in the transportation and home appliance sectors. Pre-painted coils for home appliances have specific top coatings, yielding a glossy surface. The front panels are coated with polymer linear oil-free polyester resin, while the back panels use modified epoxy painting. Market variations include conductive and matte PPGI sheets. Pre-painted galvanized coils are typically used as side panels but are less ideal for the front panels of high-end appliances.
2. PVC/PET Coated Steel for Home Appliance
These coated steels offer beautiful aesthetics, excellent processability, and superior resistance to corrosion and scratches. Painted steel sheets can also deliver varying effects, from low to high gloss, pearlescent effects, and intricate patterns, making them popular choices for refrigerators, washing machines, and other appliances.
The substrate for these color-coated steels can be cold-rolled steel sheets, hot-dip galvanized sheets, Galvalume sheets, and more. For example, cold-rolled sheets are commonly used for the exterior sheets of refrigerators and washing machines, while hot-rolled plates suit the shells of air conditioner compressors. Hot-dip galvanized sheets are typically used for outdoor units of air conditioners and back panels of refrigerators. Fingerprint-resistant sheets are favored for high-end appliances like computers, VCDs, microwaves, washing machines, and air conditioners. Generally, the metal sheets for refrigerators are 0.7-0.8mm thick, while those for microwave ovens are 0.5-0.8mm thick.
Different regions have varying preferences for color-coated steels. In Japan and South Korea, high-gloss single-color panels are preferred for refrigerator side panels, whereas in North America and Europe, low-gloss or embossed panels are more popular due to their enhanced strength and ability to cover surface defects.
Home appliances used indoors don't require high weather and aging resistance but demand greater boiling water, acid, and alkali resistance. Painted steel sheets must meet specific criteria, such as non-toxicity, high processability for microwave oven shells, detergent resistance for washing machine shells, and scratch resistance for refrigerator side panels. The protective film must remain until the end user removes it, with adhesion requirements varying based on when the film is removed.
While the core materials for home appliances and construction are similar, their requirements differ:
Coatings:Home appliance steels use polyester paint for both primer and topcoat, while construction steels employ epoxy resin primer and polyester topcoat.
Applications:Appliances: Used in washing machines, air conditioners, microwave ovens, TVs, etc.
Construction: Used in roofing, partition walls, curtain walls, ceilings, doors, windows, fences, etc.
Base Metal:Appliance steels use normal-strength steel sheets. In contrast, construction steels require higher strength due to outdoor environmental exposure. Typical substrates include hot-dip galvanized and galvalume sheets for construction, and electro-galvanized and cold-rolled steels for appliances.
When shaping home appliance PPGI steel sheets, consider the following guidelines:
1. Environmental Cleanliness: Ensure the die and processing equipment are clean.
2. Mould Exactness: Use precision dies. It's advisable to chrome-plate and finely polish dies that contact the steel sheet's coating.
3. Accuracy: Ensure correct clearance between the punch and die, adjusted for the total thickness of the substrate, coating, and 70% of the protective membrane.
4. Lubrication and Heating: Lubricate the die and protective membrane, and pre-heat the steel sheet to improve surface quality and processing outcomes.

Q: What are the main benefits of using prepainted steel coils for home appliances?
A: Prepainted steel coils offer superb processability, excellent chemical and scratch resistance, and a decorative finish, making them ideal for diverse home appliance applications.
Q: How do regional preferences impact the choice of color-coated steel for appliances?
A: Preferences vary by region; for instance, high-gloss single-color panels are popular in Japan and South Korea, while low-gloss or embossed panels are favored in North America and Europe due to their enhanced strength and defect-covering capabilities.
Q: Are there specific requirements for the protective film on color-coated steel sheets?
A: Yes, the protective film must remain until the end user removes it. Adhesion requirements differ based on whether the film is removed before leaving the factory (60 units) or by the end user (180 units).
