Which one is likely to last the longest. Old style have seen a lot that dont shut off or the stem packing nut needs to be tighten to stop a small leak.
So the ball valve sounds great will it last as long. Or do people just like them because of the ¼ turn.

1/4 turn ball valves are becoming more popular and definitely will last longer then the standard compression stem with bibb washers.

I've used 1/4 turn stops exclusively for the past couple of years. I really like them.
Most 1/4 turn valves or Ball Valves are full port meaning you get the complete flow of water as opposed to a valve that has water ways and small opening where the washer shut down on a seat to control the flow.
For all the reasons you stated. BUT, some ball valves WILL freeze and not operate if left alone for a long time.
I assume he is referring to "fixture control stops", which are NOT full port.

1/4 turn fixture stops may not be full port, but they give better flow than the conventional compression stem stops.
It is sort of immaterial, because the ports in the faucets are NOT full size either.
Valves will freeze in any position they are left in for a long time. All valves will do this. It is necessary to exercise your valves at least once a year (better more often) to keep them operational when needed. Turn each one off/on a few times.

I could only advise you to watch the quality of the stops and use the upper temp rated brass when available.there is a world of failure difference between brass stems and plastic !
i only use 1/4 turn valves and stops..i use it as a selling point on why im higher quality
the only neg to the 1/4 turn angle stops is they dont have a packing nut..when they leak their trash
I installed some Brasscraft G2 series stops that I bought from big box store about 7 or 8 years ago. I check all of them the other day. All the stops on the hot water side and one of the stops on the cold water side leaked/wouldn't shut off completely. I guess I should use brass stems. Who makes them? I also noticed Brasscraft KT series stops are make from PTFE and is for higher temperatures. Would these last longer?
you may be at the hands of hard water or levels of chlorine that will eat any at every thing.I like the high temp brass craft stuff.But you need to see your water quality to pay more.Where hot side failures occur.how is the heater serviced?Though high temps and the thermal changes will hurt plastic quickly.only corrosives or heavy hardness not mostly left in the heater effects hot stops.
Southern California water is very hard. Maybe I'll get a water softener.
