Model Airplane Runway Fabric

Our Model Airplane Runway Fabric can be used in place of an asphalt paved runway which is much more expensive. This product is easier to install and a more adaptable method for model aircraft landing spaces.

This woven fabric is durable and able to withstand damage from an RC Plane prop or even a poor landing. The Model Airplane Runway Fabric has long-term clogging resistance, high water flow rates and consistent and measurable pore sizes.

The professional-grade polypropylene monofilament geotextile is ideal for runways and is UV stabilized to withstand the sun and elements.

Geotex 701 Case Study: Using GEOTEX® 701 For Denver International Airport Runways

Summary

The 6th busiest airport in the United States is the Denver International Airport (DIA) and there is no doubt that some distress is apparent on runways. 17L/35R is one of the most traveled runways at the airport and Denver needed to replace sections along with the connecting taxiways which was also showing signs of distressed pavement panels. They chose Propex GEOTEX® 701 to act as a bond breaker between the cement-treated subgrade and the new pavement. GEOTEX 701 is a polypropylene staple fiber with a needle-punched non-woven geotextile that provides separation between totally different materials and meets FAA specifications.

This was the first project Denver completed using stimulus money. It was easier for the contractor to comply with the Buy America clause in the stimulus package because GEOTEX is made in the US. They installed 130,000 square yards of GEOTEX 701 which shut down the runway for 90 days. The end result revealed a runway strong enough to accommodate the newest line of jumbo jets.

In A Nutshell -

Denver International Airport needed an American-made product to repair heavily traveled runways. The solution was GEOTEX® to separate the CTS from the new pavement. The project required 130,000 square yards of GEOTEX 701 to be installed using a Hilti gun and shot pins. The end result, the runway was strong enough to handle the newest line of large jets.

Features And Benefits

Breaks the bond between CTS and concrete pavement, reducing stress in the concrete and improving the overall performance.Separating aggregate from the soil increasing the road&#;s life span and reduced maintenance costs.

Due to its easy installation, it saved on time and the cost of labor. It&#;s AASHTO/NTPEP CertifiedIt resists biological and chemical environments that are usually found in soil.Available in a range of styles to fit specific project requirements.

Nonwoven applications:

Nonwoven Geotextiles are absorbent fabrics that separate poor soils, provide a high flow, and at certain strengths, stabilize the subgrade. The needle-punch nonwoven geotextiles are made from polypropylene fiber and offer a felt-like texture. This geotextile fabric is known as a filter and drainage fabric.

Nonwoven geotextiles are used for landscaping projects and on construction sites. Some standard applications include:

  • Soil Separations

  • Pipe Wraps

  • Drainage Layers

  • French Drains

  • Soil Stabilization

  • Erosion Control

  • Asphalt Overlay

The application will decide what kind of nonwoven geotextile fabric will be needed. As an example, pipe wrap and French drain projects need a lightweight nonwoven fabric. Roadway stabilization requires a medium to heavyweight filter fabric.

Lightweight

Lightweight nonwovens geotextiles are mostly used as a drainage and separation layer. The average applications include pipe wrap on road and utility projects, filter fabric for landscaping, and drainage fabric for retention and detention systems. The lightweight geotextiles range from 3.0 oz to 4.5 oz.

Medium Weight

Medium weight nonwoven geotextile fabrics are used for stabilization, separation, and drainage. These fabrics offer a better tensile strength than lightweight fabrics but have lower permittivity. In other words, they are stronger than lightweight geotextiles but not as absorbent.

The medium weight fabrics are great for drainage and an excellent choice for separating soils. When used for separation, medium-weight geotextiles prevent contamination between soil layers while allowing water to pass through the subgrade. This group is often used in combination with a geogrid to have maximum stabilization and separation on unstable subgrades.

Heavyweight

This nonwoven fabric works as a soft separating geotextile layer between rough aggregate and other geosynthetic structures. The fabric looks like felt and acts as a soft separating geotextile layer between rough aggregate and other geosynthetic structures including geo-membranes and liners that can be put in jeopardy if they are punctured, ripped, or torn. Heavyweight nonwoven fabrics are also used for stabilization under roadways.
