Amazing Zip Tie innovation by Senior Citizen
Where I live the winters often become very cold with a great amount of snow. I have a large fenced in yard. The fence fabric is what they now call Stock Wire. In my day it was called Hog Wire. It is a square mesh with the squares getting smaller closer to the ground. When it snows, the snow first melts on the wire and then freezes. As more and more snow falls the weight pushes down on the whole fence line. The aluminum clips that are normally used to tie the fence fabric to the posts and top rails pop off or break as the snow weight stress increases. The Stainless Steel zip ties are being used this year to tie the wire fence fabric to the top rail at the post/top rail, juncture. Plastic zip ties have a seventy pound weight limit and are subject to sun and sub zero temperatures. Stainless Zip ties are rated at almost two hundred pounds with no environmental negatives.Because of the sagging fence fabric I have had to devise a method of pulling the fabric up to the rail so as to employ the Stainless Steel Zip tie. I used a Bessey Clamp Fixture Set that utilizes an interchangeable three quarter inch pipe to meet the different widths of the various clamping jobs. A two foot pipe gave me sufficient spread to pull the wire fabric to the top rail simply by cranking the jaws of the clamp until the wire and rail were squeezed together and in position to securely fix them together with the Stainless Steel zip tie. I didn't clip the end of the tie but left it hanging loose so I wouldn't snag my hand on a sharp end. Once I got the hang of the clamping procedure all went well.HC
