When installing a submersible pump it is important to select pipe that has a pressure rating that matches or exceeds the working pressure that will exist in the well.
If you are looking for more details, kindly visit Water Well UPVC Filter Pipe.
Two factors are used to determine Working Pressure:(Depth X .433) + (switch setting) = Working Pressure
For example, if the pumping level is 330 ft. and the Pressure Switch is set at 50 PSIG the formula will be:
(330 X .433) + 50 = 192.9 PSI
A pipe with a rating of 200 PSI or greater is needed. Use of pipe with a lower pressure rating may result in pipe failure.
Please Note: If the pumping level used to calculate pipe requirements for a well is substantially above the bottom and the pumping level drops due to drought or other conditions, the pressure rating of the pipe could be exceeded.
PVC pipe is also available in a flexible variety that is much easier to install than rigid PVC. Instead of needing to glue in fittings for every turn or bend like with rigid PVC, the flex pipe can just bend on its own. This is very convenient for hooking up to filters, skimmers or other equipment at odd angles. Its usually available in 1-1/2, 2, 3 and 4. The larger the diameter, the less flexible the pipe will become, so for very tight spaces and bends, 2 or less is the most flexible.
You might be wondering why someone would even consider using rigid PVC if flexible PVC is so much easier to use. Flexible PVC has some downsides that are more of an issue on large pond installs:

With flexible PVC pipe, the walls are slightly ribbed to allow the pipe to bend. This means youre going to end up with a little more friction in the pipe. Most people measure this to be around 5% to 10% less efficient than regular rigid PVC. More friction equals more resistance that the pump must overcome. For the main pipes and longer runs where you dont really need the high flexibility, most contractors choose to use rigid. For our ecosystem pond, because the pipe runs arent that long, and we dont have a lot of complicated filtration equipment like in a dedicated koi pond, we like flexible pipe. Although we will lose a little bit to friction using flexible pipe, for most ecosystem ponds its not really enough to worry about.
If enough weight is put onto a flexible PVC pipe it can begin to squish. This is another reason many contractors still prefer to use rigid PVCit can be buried with quite a bit of force on it and its not going to bend or break. In the past, flexible PVC pipe wasnt good enough to run underground, which is why many people still dont like it. However, the newer flexible PVC available can handle being buried with some weight on it, as long as the ground around the pipe is well compacted. It obviously still cant handle as much weight as rigid PVC, but its enough for our ecosystem pond purposes.
We have heard reports of termites eating through flexible PVC pipe in certain areas. If you believe you might have a termite problem where you live, you may want to consider rigid PVC instead, since the termites arent able to eat through the hard plastic as easily.
This isnt as much a disadvantage as just something to keep in mind. When choosing fittings to use with flexible PVC pipe, we find its better to use PVC pressure rated fittings rather than the ABS fittings mentioned earlier. The main reason is that schedule 40 PVC fittings are rated for pressure, and as a result have a larger gluing area. The ABS fittings have a smaller gluing area, which is fine for rigid pipe but is too small to get a good connection with flexible pipe.
