Construction mortar is a widely used building material in industrial and civil construction. There are two forms of construction mortar: on-site preparation and commercialization. Currently, the degree of commercialization of mortar is very high. This is because dry-mixed bagged or bulk mortar can speed up the turnaround time of the construction site, reduce labor costs, and adapt to the base and material varieties. changes, improve construction quality and protect the environment. In contrast to mortar that is mixed on site, dry mix mortar is produced in a dry mix mortar factory by mixing all necessary components such as cementitious materials, aggregates and chemical additives for a specific product under strictly controlled conditions. Pre-bagged dry mix mortar ensures that high-quality, stable cementitious materials, aggregates and additives are always mixed in the right proportions, thus ensuring a consistently high quality mortar. With the successful industrialization of VAE emulsion and VA/VeoVa emulsion, redispersible polymer powder with a minimum film-forming temperature of 0°C and good water resistance and alkali resistance has been developed, and the scope of use of rubber powder has gradually expanded to various industries. Structural and non-structural building adhesives, dry-mix mortar modifications, wall insulation and finishing systems, wall smoothing adhesives and sealing plasters, powder coatings, and construction putty.
Effect of redispersible polymer powder content on various properties of polystyrene particle thermal insulation mortar
The viscosity of the redispersible polymer powder itself is very high. When the dosage is too much, the EPS insulation mortar will have too much viscosity, low fluidity, inconvenient construction, and the cost of the mortar is too high; but when the dosage is too small, the cement and EPS particles will not reach the required level. Very good bonding results in poor cohesion and poor workability of the thermal insulation mortar. Therefore, an optimal dosage must be determined. Each cubic meter of thermal insulation slurry wet material contains 150kg/m3 of cementing material (for example, cement is 147 kg/m3, cellulose ether is 1 kg/m3, rubber powder is 2 kg/m3), polystyrene particle aggregate 1200L/m3, rubber powder mixing amount is 0, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9kg/ m3, test result analysis:
①The overall trend of wet density decreases with the increase of redispersible polymer powder content.

②The dry density shows a parabola-like result. When the amount of redispersible polymer powder does not exceed 5kg/m3, the dry density decreases as the amount of redispersible polymer powder increases. When the amount exceeds 5kg/m3, the dry density increases as the amount of redispersible polymer powder increases.
③The overall trend of compressive strength increases with the increase of redispersible polymer powder dosage, but the compressive strength does not increase much after the dosage reaches 5kg/m3.

⑤Although the data jumps a bit, as the amount of edispersible polymer powder increases, the pressure-shear bonding strength shows an increasing trend.
⑥The slip resistance of each group is not much different, and there is no regular change.
It can be seen from the test that as the amount of redispersible polymer powder increases, the compressive shear bonding strength of EPS insulation mortar shows an upward trend, and the dry density shows a downward trend. Because redispersible polymer powder is a type of thermoplastic resin with a glass transition temperature below 30°C, they will not make any contribution to the compressive strength of the cement matrix. The void ratio of the cement matrix is a key factor affecting its compressive strength, and the void ratio is determined by the water-cement ratio and air content. Rubber powder has a certain water-reducing effect, so it can reduce the water-cement ratio and increase the compressive strength; redispersible polymer powder also has a certain air-entraining effect, and the increase in air content will reduce the compressive strength. Therefore, the impact of redispersible polymer powder on the strength of mortar is determined by its combined effects of water reduction and air entrainment. The test shows that as the amount of redispersible polymer powder increases, the compressive strength of EPS insulation mortar shows an upward trend.
KDO redispersible polymer powder can improve various properties of thermal insulation mortar within a certain dosage range, but beyond a certain range it is neither very good nor economical. When the dosage of redispersible polymer powder is 5kg/m3, its dry density is low, its compressive strength and softening coefficient are high, its pressure-shear bonding strength is also good, and its slip resistance is relatively stable. Therefore, its suitable dosage can be determined as About 5kg/m3.
