How do I install EPS self-adhesive fiberglass mesh for smooth walls?

Step 1: Prepare The Surface.

Ensure that the surface is clean and dry. Remove any flaking paint or loose material from the wall surface. Use a suitable filler to fill any larger cracks and gaps. Let the filler dry and sand the surface with sandpaper to make it smooth.

Step 2: Cut The Mesh.

Measure the length and height of the wall and cut the EPS self-adhesive fiberglass mesh accordingly. Cut the mesh with sharp scissors or a utility knife. Cut the mesh slightly larger than the wall area to provide overlap for better adhesion.

Step 3: Apply The Mesh.

Peel off the protective paper from the back of the mesh and apply it to the wall from top to bottom. Press the mesh firmly into place with a flat trowel or a drywall knife. Make sure there are no bubbles or wrinkles in the mesh.

Step 4: Embed The Mesh.

Apply a layer of joint compound over the mesh, using a 6-inch knife. Spread the joint compound evenly, covering the mesh completely. Feather the edges of the joint compound outward to blend with the wall. Let the joint compound dry for 24 hours.

Step 5: Sand The Surface.

Sand the surface of the joint compound with a sanding block or sandpaper until it is smooth and even. Use a fine grit sandpaper to avoid scratching the wall surface. Wipe the wall surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust and debris.

Step 6: Apply Finishing Coats.

Apply two or three thin finishing coats of joint compound, using a 10-12 inch knife. Each coat should be allowed to dry for 24 hours before applying the next coat. Sand the surface lightly after each coat with fine sandpaper, and wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust.

Step 7: Paint The Wall.

Once the final coat of joint compound is dry and sanded smooth, the wall is ready to be painted. Use a primer to prepare the surface for paint and then apply the paint of your choice. Your wall now has a smooth and crack-free surface that will last for years to come.
